Robert Jackson (1750-1827) obtained his M.D. in Leiden. He was a notable reformer of the Army Medical service. He spent six years in the West Indies, practising surgery in Jamaica, and went through the American War of Independence. Later in his career he was appointed inspector of hospitals and went to Spain and the Levant to study yellow fever and plague.

Description: Seventh edition, revised and corrected. London, Printed for W. Strahan etc., 1774. pp. xxiv, 345, cxx, (xxviii - Index and errata). Contemporary calf, covers a little scuffed, rebacked and recornered. Bookplate of Ralph Major; old stamp of North Staffordshire Infirmary at foot of title page. Light, mainly marginal, browning/spotting.
* Blake p. 364. G&M 2150 for the first edition of 1752. Pringle (1707-1782), the founder of modern military medicine, was Physician-General of the British Army from 1744 to 1752. His books lay down the principles of military sanitation and the ventilation of barracks, gaols, hospital ships etc. He did much to improve the lot of soldiers, and it was due to his remarks that foot-soldiers were given blankets when on service. £225
